Also called wheat celosia, these colorful plants add a lovely vertical element to the flower border and make a statement when grown in a large container. The pretty, rosy-pink, soft flower spikes have an intriguing texture that nearly begs passersby to reach out and touch them. It is especially interesting to watch the bases turn silvery as they mature. Excellent cut flowers for fresh or dried arrangements.

 

Botanical Name: Celosia spicata

Family: Amaranthaceae

Native: Exact origin unknown, possibly India

Hardiness: Frost-sensitive perennial, hardy in USDA zones 10 and warmer

Plant Dimensions: 24"–30" tall

Variety Information: 5"–8" rosy-pink, feathery flower spikes turn silvery near the base as the mature

Exposure: Full sun

Bloom Period: Summer to frost

Attributes: Cut Flower, Drought Tolerant, Good for Containers, Heat Tolerant

When to Sow Outside: Within 2 weeks after your average last frost date, when soil is at least 60°F.

When to Start Inside: RECOMMENDED. 6 to 8 weeks before your average last frost date.
